Welcome to NAMI Midland County We extend a special welcome to all those whose lives or whose loved ones' lives have been affected by mental illness. Our organization seeks to provide a community of support, self-education, outreach, and advocacy for these individuals. Brandon Hilliker, our guest speaker at the Midland county June 9th NAMI meeting and mental health advocate's upcoming Hell to Paradise Tri for Hope is taking place July 25, 26, 27. His journey includes biking 285 miles from the city of Hell to Mackinaw City, swimming 5 miles across the Straights of Mackinac to St. Ignace, then running 65 miles to the city of Paradise. Brandon's goal is to raise $20 per mile for the Barb Smith Suicide Resource and Response Network. Brandon states, "I need your help to get me out of Hell and to Paradise." For his story, go to www.brandonhilliker.com for his fascinating and inspirational life story. Another upcoming save-the-date is the Barb Smith Walk for Hope for Depression and Suicide Awareness taking place Sunday, August 3 from 8:30am-1pm at the SVSU campus. This is a 5K Walk/Run event. Midland County NAMI will be one of many mental health and support organizations and vendors in attendance. Call 989-781-5260 for information or to register a team, register to walk, or become a sponsor or volunteer. At NAMI Midland two distinct groups are available to provide support on a monthly basis. The meetings take place at the same time but in separate rooms. The first is the NAMI Family Support Group which is a peer led support group for any adult (18+) who are family or friends of a loved one who has experienced symptoms of a mental health condition. The second is NAMI Connection which is a peer-led support group for adults (18+) living with symptoms of a mental health condition.
